The Kumquat is a discovery! Unearthed by Robert Fortune in China, the Kumquat Tree was introduced to Europe in 1847. It’s perfectly named – from the original Chinese, it means ‘give friend gift’.
The Kumquat fruit can be used in salads, cocktails, or as a marmalade – and is rich in fibre, as well as Vitamins A and C. Eaten raw, its edible, sweet skin contrasts deliciously with the slightly bitter flesh.
